Our Level 3 apprentices were treated to specialist training from Seriun’s Laura Brown. Laura, who has been with Seriun since 2016, joined the apprentices on Tuesday the 19th of February to give her industry insight into a host of vital IT subjects, with a key focus on cybersecurity and how to apply best security practise when in their workplace.
Seriun are a Barrowford-based IT firm who are experts in cloud solutions, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure, they offer 24-hour support to their customers and have been operating since 2003 year.
‘”It was really interesting learning about Cyber Security, it has given me the opportunity to go back to my employer and offer improvements about how we can keep confidential company information safe, and how we can better protect the company from threats”
– Jacob Goggins, North West Skills Academy
Laura kindly led a large portion of the training session on the 19th, covering cybersecurity and the steps the apprentices would need to take in their everyday work roles to protect their company from a data breach or leak. She also invited Landmark Community member, Stuart Applegate of HK Applegate Insurance Brokers, to speak in the session, advising on cyber crime insurance.
After using Project Digital’s Google Jamboard to present to the class and encourage group discussion about the various cyber threats and safety measures raised, Laura got interactive with the class. To test their security know-how, Laura tasked them with completing an online activity that would assess whether or not they could identify phishing attempts.
