New trustee treads the boards at Burnley Youth Theatre

Burnley Youth Theatre has welcomed a new trustee to its board.

Dave Walker, owner of +24 Marketing in Burnley, has joined the 13-strong board to further promote and support the charity, based on Queen’s Park Road in Burnley.

Dave, who was approached through the Burnley Bondholders, will help to promote the charity and advise them on their marketing and social media strategies.

His company, based at Northbridge House in Elm Street, offers website design, creative branding, marketing services and an integrated social media offering to maximise a client’s potential customer base.

He said: “It’s a fantastic organisation with a lot of positive success stories.

“I’m delighted to be able to give something back to the community.”

Alicia Foley, chair of trustees, welcomed Dave to the board.

The charity works with around 450 young people aged 0-25 each week and its trustees range from solicitors, parents, architects and teachers.

Alicia said: “We have a broad range of skills across the trustees. We had a skills gap when it comes to marketing and that’s where Dave comes in.

“He came along to one of our away days and had loads of ideas about how we can get the message out there about what we are doing and how we can raise more funds and our profile.

“We realise that we are doing a lot of good work but we are not really vocal about it.”

The theatre has a donation-based policy so any young person can come with no money in their pocket and still be able to take part.

Alicia said: “This means it’s even more important to bring in more money and fundraising so we can continue to offer this opportunity.

“We don’t want there to be any barriers to them taking part. For some young people, the theatre is somewhere safe to come, somewhere to get out of the house where they have no pressures. Everyone is welcome.

“Young people’s confidence grows and that’s what it’s all about.”

The organisation visits schools and holds workshops on current issues such as binge drinking, bullying and the pressures young people are under.

The organisation also holds a number of shows between its junior and senior sections and with touring production companies, as well as after school and weekend workshops and holiday clubs.

The new term at Burnley Youth Theatre begins on 7 September.
