Instagram Gets a Makeover

Big news from Instagram today – it’s introducing a colourful new logo for its main app, as well as coordinating logos for its other apps including Boomerang, Layout and Hyperlapse.

It’s not stopping there, Instagram’s app has also received an overhaul. A new black-and-white design for its backgrounds, icons and menus is intended to make photos stand out more. Don’t worry though, they haven’t made any major changes to how the app works.

“We’ve been inspired by all the ways the community has grown and changed, and we wanted to create something that reflects how vibrant and diverse storytelling on Instagram has become.”

I love the development of the logo from the retro brown and cream camera with a rainbow brush that referenced the iconic Polaroid camera to the fresh new icon with a simpler camera and the rainbow coming through in the gradient. I’m a big fan of ‘clean’ designs so I’m enjoying the new app design that allows the colourful photos to stand out the most.

The update is rolling out on iOS and Android on Wednesday 11th May so go and download the update, if you haven’t already!
