How to Make the Most of Instagram

Instagram is a wonderful place where people can share awesome pictures and videos. It sounds simple but there are still a lot of people who have no idea how to make the most of this hugely powerful platform.

That’s why I’m writing this blog to help you Instagram newbies become the next big thing!

Here are my top tips on becoming as popular Selena Gomez… all you have to do is break up with Justin Bieber. If that’s slightly unrealistic, here are some useful tips.

Post everyday

I cannot stress this enough, consistency is one of the main ways to build followers and increase engagement. Make sure your posts are high quality and interesting to stand out and ensure people don’t unfollow because you’re spamming them with pictures of your shoes or your lunch… no one wants to see that.

Maintain a theme

People are going to follow you because either they’re your friends or you have an interesting theme. So going back to consistency, maintain a consistent theme to keep your loyal followers happy. If you’re known for sharing motivational quotes for business leaders, don’t suddenly start posting pictures of your dog. If you’re a beauty business, don’t post about sport – it’s all about knowing your audience.

Also, try to create your own pictures, don’t snatch them from Google because there’s a chance your followers will have seen it already. If when you’re making your pictures you can add some writing to the image. Again, try to stick to a certain style so people recognise your posts. I use an app called Font Candy to do this which is nice and easy to use.

Use hashtags

Hashtags are probably the simplest way to organically build your following and increase engagement. Even if you have no followers, to begin with, people can search for #Quotes and find yours if that’s what you hashtagged. It might not be the top post but it’ll be on there, it all depends on how many likes your photo gets.

Focus on the entire post, not just the image

Captions shouldn’t be overlooked when posting to Instagram. The image may be the star, the hashtags may offer context, but the caption helps to tell a specific story. Where you are, who you’re with and what you’re doing. It’s all amazing content which can grab people’s attention.

I hope these tips helped and don’t give up, all it takes is a bit of time. Tweet @Plus24Ben or @Plus24Marketing if you have any comments or questions.
