We’re always open to new creative ideas – so when Financial Director Alex Walker said she was knitting hats for premature babies we said we’d have a go as well.
Armed with her knitting needles and purple wool, Alex patiently showed us how to knit a stitch and explained how to follow a pattern.
Let’s just say progress was slow!
Between the team (mostly Alex), we have managed to create 24 hats for the cause.
Just take a look at these photos to see Sam and Dan in action…
The project is part of a national campaign, calling on knitters to knit or crochet purple-coloured newborn caps for baby boys and girls.
Caps will be given to babies at local hospitals and public health units, during the month of November.
The goal is to educate parents and caregivers about the “Period of PURPLE Crying,” a normal but frustrating period of increased crying infants experience in the first few weeks and months after birth.
Knitters are free to use any newborn baby cap pattern.
Caps should be made of any shade of soft, baby-friendly purple yarn, be at least 50% purple in colour, and free of straps, strings, pom-poms or other potential choking and strangling hazards.
