+24 were lucky enough to be able to attend 2018’s lovelocalexpo event, hosted at Impact Conferencing in Burnley. The expo brought together businesses of all sizes and sectors from across Lancashire as a whole. As headline sponsors we were excited to see that the exhibition was filled with amazing local businesses both exhibiting and attending as visitors.
The day was packed with things to interact with, from speed networking – which our social media executive, Elly, got involved with – to seminars, one of which was given on how to create and execute an effective social media strategy by our own “Social Sam”. Beyond this, Bertie Bee made an appearance twice, the first appearance being to help Mint Holidays spread the word about their expansion into business travel and get more people involved in our +24 lovelocalexpo competition, which required people to post a selfie with our sticker tagging us using the lovelocalexpo hashtag (#LLE2018).
+24 weren’t the only company exhibiting that decided to run a competition, as our stand neighbour Mint Holidays gave away a bottle of Batch Premium Gin, New local business Ginception gave away a G&T Hamper, Lancs Business View gave away sweets and many, many more were also giving away freebies, running prize draws and contests and handing out complimentary swag bags.
Sam’s seminar went down well, with many of the audience members coming to our stand to ask more questions about what we could do for their business or how they can improve their own internal social media management.
Other highlights from the day included Burnley Mayor, Councillor Howard Baker, opening the expo at the start of the day and meeting the exhibitors and meeting local business. Ginception, who offer a mobile gin bar service, have converted a horse trailer by hand into a mobile gin bar for all manner of social or professional events. The (brand new) company’s determination and their dedication to sourcing local products and supporting other Lancashire businesses by doing so is evident in their work and approach and embodied what lovelocalexpo is all about.
The event wasn’t short of special guests, from the Mayor to Bertie Bee and BBC Radio Lancashire’s Gilly! Gilly interviewed lots of the seminar speakers and exhibitors, including Sam, whole spoke with Gilly about his seminar, why making the most of social media is so vital and gave tips on how small, local businesses can utilise social media for marketing and advertising.
The event was busy all day and showed that Lancashire’s businesses are thriving and that as a county we have a unique community spirit amongst our business, wanting to support, uplift and work with other local businesses.
